Composer Chris Burke helped create the sound of 80s horror, scoring and contributing music to such films as “Splatter University” (1984), “The Toxic Avenger” (1984) “Blue Vengeance (1991), “The Refrigerator” (1991) and many others. In addition, he worked on set with some of the most creative talents in contemporary film and theater, including directors Robert Altman, Lucio Fulci, Enzo Castellari and Peter Sellars and more.
After a career as studio-owner in NYC where he wrote music for videogames, created an interactive remix of Bjork’s I’ve Seen It All, and sound design for countless projects,
Chris created the award-winning “talk show in game space”, This Spartan Life. Likened to “a mashup of the Charlie Rose Show and the video game Doom” by Wired Magazine, TSL featured interviews with film directors, musicians and others, all while being attacked by other players in the online, multiplayer first-person shooter Halo. The series ran for 10 years and attracted the attention of countless mainstream media outlets, including Wired Magazine, The BBC, Reuters, Stuff Magazine, and BusinessWeek, and won Best Machinima Series at the 2005 and 2007 Machinima Festival.
Chris has nine music releases to date, ranging from the experimental Idioglossia (Mode Avant, 1990) to his electronic band Glorified Magnified’s All Wave Super (Sire/Warner, 1994), through his releases as glomag by 8BitPeoples and Astralwerks. His Pocket Calculator remix of the Kraftwerk original with the 8 Bit Operators, rose to number 17 on the Billboard Magazine Hot Dance Music Singles chart in 2007. He has performed all over Europe, Australia, the US and Canada.
In 2016 Chris released a compilation of his early soundtrack work entitled Confessions of An 80s Low Budget Horror FIlm Composer. In 2017 he followed that up with a release of brand new horror film music called Tomb Box. Mandible Judy (July 2019) continues his exploration of the synth-horror genre and contained the seeds of the story Chris would later expand into the podcast series of the same name.
Chris has exhibited/performed at Centre Pompidou, The Whitney Museum of American Art, The Blip Festival, The American Museum of The Moving Image, The Sydney FIlm Festival the 2009 Picnic Festival in Amsterdam.
